The Samaná River is best appreciated from a river level! This is why we organize 2 different rafting community stoke floats on 2 of its tributaries: The Rio Verde and the Rio Calderas.

The general public is also invited to the festivities in the town of Cocorna and Puerto Garza, San Carlos!

The kayak races can also be enjoyed from the shore! The qualifiers on the Cocorna river are road side and offer great visibility.

The Word championships can be enjoyed by spending the second week-end in the small town of Puerto Garza, located on the municipality of San Carlos!

Why is the Samaná SO SPECIAL ?

The Samana Watershed is located 2 hours east of Medellin, on the Medellin-Bogota highway. It drains the eastern side of the northern tip of the central range of the Andes, and flows into the Magdalena river, Colombia’s main artery. This river is the last remaining corridor between 5 of Colombia’s most relevant ecosystems. Its water flows from the Paramo de Sonson and crosses an incredibly pristine area of rainforest, before pouring its water into the floodplains and the Magdalena.

All the rivers of the area have been dammed and devastated by deforestation and natural resources exploitation. Yet the Samaná persists, and it is our last opportunity to preserve one of the world’s most astonishing watershed
